Visual Corruption in VMWare 5 when using Office 2013 applications

Visual corruption got you down?  Well there are two ways to bring sanity to using your VM.

To work around this issue, either disable 3D acceleration for the virtual machine, or disable hardware acceleration in the particular Microsoft Office 2013 application.

To disable 3D acceleration in a Windows 7 or 8 virtual machine:

  1. Shut down the virtual machine.
  2. Go to Settings and click Display.
  3. Turn the Accelerate 3D Graphics setting to OFF.
  4. Start the virtual machine.

To disable hardware acceleration in a particular Microsoft Office 2013 application:

  1. Launch the Office 2013 application you want disable hardware acceleration for.

  2. Click File > Options >Advanced > Disable hardware acceleration. This disables hardware acceleration only for Microsoft Office 2013 applications.Note: 3D acceleration is still available for other applications in the virtual machine.
